Love - Betrayal - Revenge
These are the core components of the Niebelungen saga. On a recent weekend in Worms, members from AEGEE Heidelberg, as well as those visiting from all over Europe, hope to have a weekend as dramatic and memborable as the great Niebelungen! Worms, of course, is the origin of the fable and plays a central role in the story. So during our visit, along with 20 or so members of AEGEE from all over Europe, we explored the locations mentioned in the Saga, hunted down the dragons scattered across the city, and enjoyed European night within the very impressive Niebelungenturm in the center of the city. The tour where we slept for the weekend really looks like something directly out of a Harry Potter movie!
While this weekend involved mostly new faces, those of us from AEGEE Heidelberg left with many new friends. Especially so after European night, where we had the pleasure of trying lots of new drinks and snacks that were brought from all over Europe, in our buffet style dinner on Friday evening. Our contribution from AEGEE Heidelberg? Käsespaztle, naturally. And again on Saturday for lunch...and dinner...and breakfast on Sunday....
Yeah, we may have drastically underestimated how many people 5 kgs of spatzle can feed, but it's hard to complain about such a filling, delicious meal in the middle of winter!
Those members who were not German definitely enjoyed the other aspects of German culture they were introduced to during the weekend - especially so for the Christmas markets! The markets in Worms were beautiful, and got many compliments for the Gluhwein, and classical market foods.
AEGEE is known for these type of cultural exchanges - if you have an interest in joining an AEGEE local in Italy, Poland, Spain or further abroad for a cultural exchange, reach out to a local member of AEGEE Heidelberg for all the details!
