Even though it's been almost exactly three years since I left for my second Summer University, it still remains one of the best events I've been to, with some of my favourite memories thanks to AEGEE. The motto, "Pirates of the CartAEGEEan," was the first thing that caught my eye in the list of all the SUs on offer. I hadn't been to Spain much before, and I'd never even heard of Alicante, but as a lover of everything pirate, there was no way I could miss out. And boy, am I glad I went.
After an interesting journey — including my first-ever BlaBlaCar ride — to the main hub of the SU near Cartagena, I was, at first, a bit overwhelmed by meeting so many new people. But after the icebreakers and the first of ten parties, the group didn't feel foreign at all anymore. I quickly fell in love with Alicante, Cartagena, and Spain in general.
The organisers went all out to make the summer unforgettable for us. Events like city tours, rafting, and the Moros y Cristianos celebrations in Murcia (the Spanish Bielefeld, as I found out later) — plus all the museum visits for history geeks like me — kept us constantly on the move. The summer was truly unforgettable and made me fall in love with Spain more than I'd expected (so much I became a memebr of AEGEE Valencia as well).
