WHAT IS THE BUDDY PROGRAMME?
First of all: congrats on choosing Heidelberg! We’re sure you’ll be having the time of your life in this small but bustling city. We want your academic and everyday life here to be as easy and as fun as possible, which is why you have the chance to sign up for the buddy programme: By assigning you a Heidelberg student from your department as your “buddy”, we’ll make it easy for you to both get in touch with local students and have someone to ask pretty much anything you need help with – be it registration, finding a room or info on the city. Your buddy will help you settle in and offer you support during the semester. Many of the Heidelberg students taking part (all of them volunteers, of course!) have already been abroad themselves or might even be international students and/or former buddies with a great deal of first-hand experience.
If you have any questions about the programme, just send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
WHERE DOES AEGEE COME IN?
If you will be studying American Studies, Anglistik (English), Economics, Germanistik im Kulturvergleich (German as a Foreign Language), Geschichte (History), Informatik (Computer Science), Mathematik (Mathematics), Medizin (Medicine – Faculty Heidelberg), Physik (Physics), Rechtswissenschaft (Law), Romanistik (Romance Studies), Soziologie (Sociology), Übersetzungs- und Dolmetschwissenschaft (Translation and Interpreting) or Zahnmedizin (Dentistry), you can sign up directly with the International Office.
As you can see, at the moment not all subjects offered in Heidelberg are covered, which is why we want to successively extend the programme to include as many subjects as possible. Since the summer semester 2016 we have been cooperating with the International Office and organising the buddy programme for the following subjects: Computerlinguistik (Computational Linguistics), Christentum & Kultur (Christianity and Culture), Theologie (Theology), Deutsche Philologie (German Language and Literature) and Klassische Philologie (Classical Philology: Latin/Greek).
HOW TO APPLY
If you want to sign up, just fill out the form below by 1st September 2016. As soon as we’ve received all applications we will try and match you with a Heidelberg student of the same subject and similar interests – please note that we can’t guarantee that we’ll find you a buddy who’s a “perfect match”!
Towards the middle of September we’ll contact both you and your buddy partner by email to let you know each other’s contact details. And off you go! If there’s anything you’d like to discuss before you arrive, don’t hesitate to get in touch with your buddy!
Of course we’ll be there to help or give advice if anything doesn’t work out before or during your time in Heidelberg.
